Every City in the Philippines will have an area designated for dumping garbage. Sooner or later, families will move into these areas to find a source of living in
scavenging. Communities of scavengers will then be established.
YWAM Palawan discovered this was true in their city when there was a time they did not have the regular garbage trucks collecting their waste and they had to bring them to the dumpsite
themselves.
They started to visit the dumpsite once a week for a feeding program. No matter how much food they brought, it was always not enough. However, their relationship with the people prospered. They
intentionally did not say anything to them at first, until they were the one's who were asked why they were being feed them. On that first Christmas, they conducted an evangelism and found the
people to be very open.
